For the Queque:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk

INSTRUCTIONS                                                                                                                                                     

1) Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a Bundt pan or loaf pan.

2) In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

3) Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.

4) In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

5) Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

6) Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

7) Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

8) Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving the Queque:

1) Once the cake is completely cooled, slice and serve the Queque on its own or with a dusting of powdered sugar.
