INGREDIENTS

4 Persons

For the Natilla:
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
For the Cinnamon Topping:
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

For the Natilla:

1) In a saucepan, combine the whole milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

2) Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a gentle boil.

3) In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Gradually add a small amount of the hot milk mixture to the egg yolks while whisking constantly. This step tempers the egg yolks to prevent curdling.

4) Pour the tempered egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan and continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the custard is thick and coats the back of a spoon.

5) Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the custard cool slightly.

Assembling the Natilla:

1) Pour the custard into individual serving dishes or one large serving dish.

2) In a small bowl, mix the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar for the topping.

3) Sprinkle the cinnamon topping over the custard.

4) Refrigerate the natilla for at least 2 hours, or until chilled and set.

5) Serve the natilla chilled and enjoy the creamy goodness of Cuban tradition!
