INGREDIENTS

4 Persons

For the Churros:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

For the Churros:

1) In a saucepan, combine the water, butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the butter is melted and the mixture comes to a gentle boil.

2) Reduce the heat to low and add the all-purpose flour. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a smooth dough that pulls away from the sides of the pan.

3) Remove the saucepan from heat and let the dough cool for a few minutes.

4) Add the eggs, one at a time, stirring well after each addition. The dough should become smooth and glossy.

5) Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Frying the Churros:

1) In a heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).

2) Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.

3) Carefully pipe the dough into hot oil, using scissors to cut the dough at the desired length.

4) Fry the churros until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Coating the Churros:

1) In a shallow dish, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the coating.

2) While the churros are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.

Serving the Churros:

1) Serve the churros warm, either on their own or with a side of warm chocolate sauce for dipping.

2) Enjoy the crispy, sugary goodness of Cuban churros!
